Park hopping is a free and easy way for people with UK Magic Tickets to visit more than one Disney Park on the same day, meaning you can plan to do bucket list rides across four parks in one day, plan flexibly and move parks as crowd levels change during your day, or shape your day around dining experiences bookended by parks. The ability to park hop gives UK visitors more flexibility in their planning than having tickets which mean you have to stay in one park all day. Plus, park hopper is helpful when you’re body clock is adjusting to the 5 hour time difference in those first few days of your Orlando holiday.

This guide explains what Park Hopping is, how we use it daily, and how to plan a smooth multi-park days using free Disney transport, or your hire car. If you are still considering whether to get the UK Magic Ticket head over to 7 & 14 Day UK Exclusive Magic Tickets: A Guide To Hidden Perks.

What Is Park Hopping?

Park Hopping simply means visiting more than one Disney theme park on the same day.

Here’s an example of a day using park hopper:

Morning: Go to Animal Kingdom

Afternoon: Head back to your room for some pool time around lunch

Evening: Hollywood Studios to catch a few rides and watch Fantasmic!

The four parks you can hop between are:

  • Magic Kingdom

  • EPCOT

  • Disney's Hollywood Studios

  • Disney's Animal Kingdom

There's no set start time for Park Hopping anymore, that restriction ended on 9th January 2024. This means you can go from one park to another at any time of day, and go in and out as many times as you like without restrictions as long as the park is not full.

The ultimate way for a lot of UK visitors to park hop at Disney World is to complete the four parks in one day challenge. This challenge involves visiting all four of the parks and riding a set number of rides and enjoying certain snacks in each park. It’s lots of fun, particularly for families with children.

Which Disney Tickets Include Park Hopper?

In this guide we talk about park hopper being included in your ticket, assuming you have bought, or will buy, the UK Exclusive Magic Ticket, or a combination ticket in the UK that includes the Magic Ticket. In general, the following Disney tickets include park hopper:

  • Annual Passes that UK visitors can buy: the Incredi Pass

  • UK Exclusive Magic Ticket

  • US tickets if you pay to add park-hopper on

  • UK combination tickets that have a Magic Ticket and ticket for other theme parks, such as Universal

UK Magic Tickets Include Park Hopper: Why This Gives You An Advantage

Most UK guests will have park hopper included in their ticket, because they have bought the UK Exclusive Magic Ticket at home before visiting. It’s brilliant to have Park Hopper baked into the Magic Ticket offer as it appreciates that UK visitors want to make the most out of a long-haul holiday, that may well be a once-in-a-long-time trip.

Park hopper gives you the benefit of flexibility which helps you adapt to crowds, kid’s sleep schedules, or just feeling worn out. It means you can enjoy a slower morning with breakfast in Animal Kingdom, followed by a flexible afternoon riding Guardians of the Galaxy at EPCOT, and then a showing of Fantasmic! over at Hollywood Studios, without paying any more for your tickets.

Another key advantage is in the planning and budgeting. When you have park hopper you can head to Disney World with a rough plan of what you want to ride, and you can move around to parks when wait times are lower. You check the My Disney App and head to the quietest park. If it becomes to crowded at the park you are in, just check the app and head to another park with lower wait times. It’s a plan light approach that I sometimes love to use. This level of convenience and flexibility means you can even skip Lightning Lanes during quieter days and weeks in the parks.

To adopt the plan light approach of a rough idea of having a rough idea of what you want to experience and hopping around according to live wait times, you need to be fairly laid back and flexible in your planning. But if you are, it is definitely a great way to reduce the strain of planning for a more relaxed trip experience. This method is great if you book your Disney World trip last minute, and we have used it a few times with ease thanks to being able to park hop.

When To Consider Park Hopping?

There are many reasons to park hop as part of your touring strategy of Disney World from the UK, but our top reasons to park hop include:

  • Dodging high wait times in one park when it is quieter elsewhere

  • Enjoying fun challenges

  • Riding your favourite attractions all in one day

  • To avoid Spring and Summer hot afternoons

  • Convenient way to plan around Disney Dining experiences and experience more of the resort and free transport system

  • To split your day up and get more from experiences in the parks rather than rushing.

Park hopping is part of our daily touring strategy, but at busy times of the year, like Christmas park capacity impacts park hopping. This means if you go when it is busy, incorporating park hopping into your touring strategy doesn’t always work.

Why Park Capacity Matters?

Park capacity matters because you can’t park hop into a full park. Capacity closures are rare and mainly happen during:

  • Christmas week

  • New Year's Eve

  • Thanksgiving

  • Sometimes on major US holiday weekends, like Independence Day

If a park is full, you won't be allowed to hop into it until capacity drops. This is rare but worth remembering if you're travelling around these times.

Times you need to park hop

Throughout the year Disney World theme parks hold special extra ticketed events, where the parks close early. For some of these events you can buy a ticket to go and enjoy an exclusive experience. This includes events such as After Hours or Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. On these nights the park holding the event closes early. With a park hopper ticket you can simply head to another park. Without the park hopping ability on your ticket, your day in that park would end early.

An example of this would be Magic Kingdom closing at 6pm every night of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party during November and December.

How To Park Hop?

Park hopping is easy and you can decide to park hop when you want. You can plan to park hop, but you can also decide on the day in the park that you fancy going to a different park. Disney make it really easy to park hop and you can get from park to another easily and for free.

There are paid options, but I have never used them to park hop as it feels like an unnecessary extra cost, and less fun. Moving your hire car is also easy, as long as you don’t misplace your car parking ticket when staying off-site or your room card when staying on-site.

Use Free Disney Transport to Park Hop

Disney’s four theme parks are connected by free transport systems making it easy to get around. Take a look at the guide to Disney’s free transport system to get to grips with navigating the whole resort area. For hopping from theme park to theme park you have some very specific fun options, unless you are park hopping to and from Animal Kingdom where your only free option is the bus.

Getting directions and times to park hop in the My Disney Experience App, with images

The best way to park hop with accurate travel times between parks is to use the “get Directions” section in the My Disney App. It gives you live travel times, working options, and navigation.

This is a hidden gem within the app that is often overlooked by visitors who don’t realise that it’s there. There are five steps to go through and when you know how it takes less than a minute. Most importantly this gives you directions and real travel times during you visit, rather than average or best guess journey times. It’s also free for UK guests to use the app as long as they connect to the Disney World free Wi-Fi which works really well in the parks, but not so great outside.

Step 1: Open the app and on the main page click the map icon on the bottom navigation bar as circled in the image below.

Step 2: Scroll across the top menu until you come to the bus icon labelled: “Transportation”. Click this.

Step 3: This will open a new menu. Pick the free transport you think you need, for example the bus service.

Step 4: On this page you put where you want to go in and get it to navigate from where you are, or if you are using it to plan, type in where you will be.

Moving Your Hire Car to Park Hop

Moving your hire car is another way you can park hop, simply head back to the car park where you have parked your car and drive to the theme park you want to visit next. Show your ticket at the ticket plaza at the entrance of the car park and you won’t need to pay to park again. You pay to park once, and can move your car between the theme park car parks all day as long as you have your ticket. For a full guide to car parking at Disney, including the costs and working out your parking costs before you leave head to guide to car parking at Disney World with car park cost calculator.

Pay to park once; hop between Disney theme park car parks all day for no extra cost. Just keep your ticket safe!

Park hopping with your hire car offers the most flexibility and time freedom, and you can always leave changes of clothes or shoes in the car if you need to. The journey time when park hopping by hire car has always been shorter in my experience too, the only exception being Magic Kingdom.

Moving your car to park hop from Magic Kingdom is the most time consuming option due to needing to use a monorail or ferry boat to get back to the car park. You need to add in 30-45 minutes to get from park entrance to car. If you are going to EPCOT and nowhere else, leave your car and park hop directly to EPCOT, it is easier. IF you are going to any other park, grab your car. Going back for it later can get tricky, especially if you leave the other park at closing time. As free transport options close between 30 minutes and an hour after closing time, it is possible to miss transport back on busy nights and then you need a Minnie Van, which you have to pay for.

Here are the car transfer times to park hop between parks.

Why Park Hopping As A Strategy Maximises Your Day?

Overall choosing to park hop gives you the flexibility to escape crowds, but also to tailor your day around the other experiences at Disney World like dining experiences in resort hotels.

Park hopping is also a great way to avoid getting too hot. The Florida heat can leave you feeling tired quickly in the Spring and Summer; by park hopping you experience the parks in small manageable chunks, that aren’t overwhelming in the heat, or over stimulating in the crowds.

Park hopping is my favourite way to break the day into chunks so exploring the parks feels less like an endurance test and more like a holiday.
