UK Guide To Mousekeeping (Housekeeping) At Walt Disney World, Including Cleaning Schedules
Over the years we’ve stayed at quite a few Disney Resorts and housekeeping, or mousekeeping, is one of those things that just happens. But at Disney housekeeping services are a little different, and the questions of tips and room cleaning frequency are important on a two week holiday from the UK. My experiences with housekeeping services have honestly been mixed. At the worst end bears have gone missing, at the best end thoughtful displays of Disney magic.
What Is Mousekeeping At Walt Disney World?
Mousekeeping is the guest nickname for Disney's housekeeping services at Walt Disney World. It is a Disney-fan term rather than official company wording, but it is widely used when talking about room cleaning Cast Members.
Mousekeeping covers both the cleaning done before you arrive and the service provided while you are there. It includes room services such as fresh towels and linens, bed making, bathroom cleaning, bin emptying, topping up toiletries and coffee, and light tidying of the room, depending on your hotel category and housekeeping schedule.
How often your Disney World room gets cleaned in 2026
Housekeeping at Walt Disney World is not the same across every hotel, and that can catch UK visitors out, especially if you are expecting daily cleaning as standard. In general, Value and Moderate Resorts are serviced every other day, while Deluxe Resorts usually get daily housekeeping. The biggest difference comes at Disney Vacation Club resorts, where the schedule depends on whether you are paying cash or staying on points.
Resort tier | Housekeeping frequency | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
Value Resorts | Every other day | Full housekeeping service |
Moderate Resorts | Every other day | Full housekeeping service |
Deluxe Resorts | Daily | Full housekeeping service |
Deluxe Villas | Daily | Full housekeeping service ( The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness are the main exception and are usually serviced every other day) |
Disney Vacation Club resorts (points stays | Day 4, then Day 8 for longer stays | Day 4, then Day 8 for longer stays |

What is included in a full housekeeping service?
Full housekeeping service usually includes:
making the beds
replacing towels and room amenities like the free mini soaps, and this includes replacing coffee and tea bags, plus the takeout cups.
cleaning the bathroom
emptying rubbish and recycling
light tidying, such as wiping surfaces, dusting and vacuuming when needed
Even on days when your room is not scheduled for cleaning, you can still request extra towels, coffee or fresh linen through the front desk, your in-room phone, on the My Disney Experience App or through the Hey Disney device, (which works just like Alexa).
Disney World housekeeping is different from UK hotels
When you stay in hotels here in the UK, rooms are usually cleaned daily, but at Disney World resorts, the frequency of cleaning depends on where you stay. While you can request extras or a clean if you need one, it’s not standard.
You’ll also notice that housekeeping services in Disney World get creative with toys, which is something that I have not experienced in UK hotels and found different during my first stay. Although, over the years the creative of the Housekeeping team has reduced somewhat.
Do I have to tip housekeeping at Disney resorts?
No, you do not have to tip and it will not impact the service you get if you choose not to tip. Tipping Mousekeeping at Walt Disney World is optional, not expected. This means you do not need to include this as a cost in your budget as you would with tips for table-service dining. With that said, in the US, tipping for housekeeping services is usual and part of the culture.
How much should UK visitors tip Mousekeeping?
If you choose to leave a small cash tip as a thank you, a useful rule of thumb is around $1 (£0.74) per person in the room, per service. In practice, that usually means about:
$3 (£2.21) per clean for a couple
$5 (£3.68) per clean for a family of four
If a Cast Member brings extra towels, coffee or other requested items to your room, a couple of dollars is a common thank-you, but again this is not something you need to do, it’s optional.
If you do decide that you want to tip, here’s an example of total cost for a 14 night stay in a Value Resort like All Star Music where you will get 7 full room cleans. Using the tipping figures above this works out to:
$21 (£15.44) for a 14 nights stay for a couple
$35 (£25.74) total tipping for a family of four over 14 nights
However, given the size of the resorts you don’t often find the same person cleaning your room throughout your stay, so it’s best to leave tips out every other day rather than in one lump sum at the end.
How to tip Mousekeeping without stress
We have found the best way to tip Mousekeeping is to prepare the tip before we leave the UK. Exchanging cash here in the UK and asking for small bills before travelling means you can pop the tip in a labelled envelope with a note, and simply leave one out every other day if you’re staying in a Value or Moderate Resort.
I tip Mousekeeping this way because it saves me thinking while I’m on holiday and I can do it with a cup of coffee watching the telly before I go in less than 5 minutes. You can use my note too to save even more time; it’s a free PDF for you to download.
If you do decide to tip, here are a few simple habits make it easier:
tip on each cleaning day rather than leaving one amount at the end of your stay
leave cash notes rather than coins
place the money somewhere obvious with a short thank you note so it is clear it is intended as a tip
treat tipping as a personal choice, not something you have to do
The main thing is not to panic about getting it wrong. A small daily cash tip is a thoughtful gesture that is optional.
Moving soft toys to avoid issues
Mousekeeping are incredibly busy at peak times and mistakes happen. We were staying at All Star Movies over Christmas, and came back to the room to find a bear missing. It had been left in the bed, amongst the sheets in a rush to get to Early Entry. Mousekeeping had simply bundled up the bedding, as they only have so long in each room, and the bear was in with the sheets. Sheets are washed off-site so getting a bear back can be tricky.
On this occasion we were lucky. Mousekeeping were still on the floor and although the Spanish language barrier proved tricky, the bear was found in a bag with all the linen. Ever since that event in 2023, we have moved bears into drawers or onto the cabinet under the television before leaving. This is our top tip for any one travelling with loved soft toys: don’t leave them in the bed when you go out.
Can you request a specific housekeeping time?
Guaranteed housekeeping time slots are not available but you can request them. If you need your room serviced earlier or later in the day, your best option is to ask at the front desk or call Housekeeping from your room, as Cast Members may be able to note a request. There are housekeeping managers on-site at all hotels; it depends who you speak to on whether your request is accommodated.
If you are looking to avoid housekeeping services at certain times, you can try:
timing requests: but they are usually treated as preferences, not confirmed appointments and don’t have a lot of impact
the Room Occupied sign: can help stop staff entering while you are in the room
you can ask separately for fresh towels, coffee or extra linen
Disney staff can still enter for safety, security or maintenance checks when needed
Can you opt out of Housekeeping at Disney World hotels?
Yes, you can decline housekeeping during your stay if you would rather not have staff entering your room. The simplest way to do that is to speak to the front desk or use the Room Occupied sign on your door.
There are a few important details to know before you opt out:
It won’t get you a gift card. Disney no longer offers gift cards or other perks as part of Service Your Way” for declining housekeeping. If you travelled around 2017-2020 this was a great way to get a few extra dollars, but it is no longer an option.
Opting out of cleaning does not stop Disney from entering for safety, security, maintenance or room checks
You can still ask for fresh towels, coffee, toiletries or other essentials without accepting a full clean.
If you want to opt out of cleaning services for your whole stay, this is something to do in person at the front desk.
Do housekeeping leave towel animals like on Disney Cruise Line?
No, towel animals are not a guaranteed or even regular part of Mousekeeping in Disney World hotels, especially in the Value and Moderate resorts. We have however had towels animals left on a couple of special occasions at Disney or as an apology, (the soft toy incident mentioned above).
While towel animals in Disney World resort rooms are unusual Housekeeping do go the extra mile on a lot of occasions and if you have a blanket on your bed, or soft toys left on the side, a little bit of magic often happens.
Free Mousekeeping Thank You note
To save you time, here’s the Mousekeeping thank you note I print out. There are 4 thank-you notes on a sheet and you can use it by:
sticking the note onto the front of an envelope to create a Mousekeeping envelope which has the notes inside
placing the note on top of the cash and fixing with a paper clip
I usually stick it on front of an envelope, add dollars, and sign my first name. Then I leave the tips in the safe, and take them out every other day.
