The Disney Skyliner is a panoramic and enjoyable way to park hop, get to resorts, and character dining experiences. One of the easiest ways to travel around Walt Disney World, especially if you're staying at a Skyliner resort or planning to visit EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, this aerial gondola system can save you time, steps, and stress.

This guide explains how the Skyliner works, more about the resorts and parks it connects, how long each leg of the Skyliner routes takes, accessibility info, and the tips UK visitors really need.

Routine Maintenance Closures 2026 and 2027

Routine maintenance may also cause closures, this is announced in advance, but UK guests looking for that Skyliner hotel experience will probably want to avoid planning a trip during these dates.

The Disney Skyliner will be closed for routine maintenance on:

  • 25 - 31 January 2026

  • 24 - 30 January 2027

What the Disney Skyliner Actually Is

The Disney Skyliner is a high-capacity gondola system with 304 gondolas that links two Disney theme parks with several resort hotels. Each cabin glides through the sky, offering brilliant views of the surrounding areas, you can catch glimpses of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and EPCOT's World Showcase.

It opened in 2019 and has quickly become a guest-favourite transport option as it is one of the most reliable ways to get around the resort, as long as the weather is good. It closes if there is a thunderstorm, or high winds. And there’s nothing quite like it!

The Skyliner is one part of Disney World’s free transportation system, you can read about other free transport in UK visitors guide to Disney World free transport.

Where You Can Board the Skyliner

You can access the Disney Skyliner from six key locations near the theme parks and at resort hotels:

At 2 Theme Parks

There are skyliner stations at the following Disney Parks:

  • EPCOT (International Gateway entrance which is located between the UK and France pavilions at the back of World Showcase). This also leads out to Disney’s Boardwalk area.

  • Disney's Hollywood Studios, at the front of the park

At Resort Hotels

  • Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort (the main hub where all lines meet)

  • Disney's Riviera Resort

  • Disney's Art of Animation Resort

  • Disney's Pop Century Resort

From the Caribbean Beach hub you switch lines in just a few steps if you are travelling from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios: it's a simple, quick transfer.

The Disney Skyliner Route

Operating Hours

The Skyliner usually runs from around 90 minutes before the first connected park opens. EPCOT and Hollywood Studios do tend to run similar opening hours. Ut will remain running until around 90 minutes after the last connected park closes

For example, if Hollywood Studios is open from 9:00 to 21:00, the Skyliner typically operates from around 07:30 to 22:30.

This varies with seasonal park hours, so double-check closing times, especially if staying for evening fireworks at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios.

Journey Times Between Stations

These timings are based on our real-world testing, so we are giving a approximate time and rounding to the nearest minute:

  • Hollywood Studios → Caribbean Beach: approx. 5 minutes

  • Caribbean Beach → Riviera Resort: approx. 4-5 minutes

  • Riviera Resort → EPCOT (International Gateway): approx. 9 minutes

  • Total Hollywood Studios → EPCOT: approx. 17 minutes, including the transfer at Caribbean Beach

The flights are short, smooth-ish, and usually quicker than buses, as long as it isn’t opening time in a morning or closing time at night. The queues get pretty long, but normally move fairly quickly. However, you can get caught in a fairly long queue, especially at Pop Century and Art of Animation.

What It's Like On Board?

Each cabin is the same inside but some cabins have character wraps and some do not. The cabins without wraps offer better views. The cabins with wraps offer some protection from the glare of the sun, and you get to say you rode in an Encanto cabin for instance, which is a great thrill for kids and adults!

Be aware that the run into stations feels fast, the number of times you think you are going to crash into the next gondola, but you actually won’t because it’s an illusion is unreal. But it is something to be aware of if you have anyone anxious onboard with you.

The cabins are not air-conditioned, so can get hot when the temperatures rise, but there is constant airflow through vented panels and top windows. Airflow keeps the cabin surprisingly comfortable while moving,

You’ll notice that a lot of the gondola’s have Disney character wraps, which is quite exciting for younger guest and adults a like. You’ll notice that when you ride in these gondolas it’s actually darker so it’s like looking through tinted glass when you look out.

Shaded, tinted windows with additional sun screening and seating for up to 10 people in each cabin. There’s space for a pushchair and as long as it is a single pushchair you do not need to fold it to get on, just push it on. And wheelchair users do not need to transfer either. The capacity of the cabin is reduced to 6 in these instances.

Disney also provides an emergency sickness bag under one of the bench seats. The skyliner is not the best form of transport for anyone sensitive to motion sickness of with height phobias.

Motion Sickness and Height Phobias

The Disney Skyliner gondolas do move in a breeze, and for some people this can cause motion sickness. Sadly, as much as I love the ride, I always come of a Skyliner gondola feeling sick, which means I can’t use it after a trip to Toppolinos!

Accessibility Information

The Skyliner is wheelchair and mobility-friendly. Every station includes dedicated cabins that detach from the main track and come to a complete stop, allowing:

  • Full wheelchair roll-on access

  • Ample time for boarding

  • Ease for anyone who needs extra time or stability

These cabins then reattach to the line after boarding.

What Happens in Bad Weather?

If lightning or high winds occur, the Skyliner closes for safety. When this happens, Disney immediately switches to buses running from Skyliner stations to affected parks or resorts. You won't be stranded.

Additional Places You Can Reach

Using the skyliner to get around Disney World isn’t only about hopping from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios, or using it because it’s part of the free transport system offered at your hotel. Using the Disney skyliner can get you within easy, short walking distance of so many other places too.

From EPCOT International Gateway

Arriving at the EPCOT International Gateway places you within walking distance of:

  • Disney's Boardwalk, perfect for the Cake Bake Shop, character breakfast experience the Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria Al Forno, or to grab a huge Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream.

You are also close to the following resorts:

  • Yacht Club

  • Beach Club

  • Swan and Dolphin hotels

This makes the Skyliner an excellent option for evening dining or exploring another resort without needing a reservation or being asked for proof of where you're staying.

Planning Tips for UK Visitors

Here are the best and the worst times to use the skyliner, so you can plan to get the most out this type of free transport during your Disney World holiday from the UK.

Use it to avoid long waits at strategic times

If you're staying at a Skyliner hotel there isn’t a bus service so be aware that first thing in a morning when people want to head in for Early Entry or Rope Drop, queues in resorts can get long, especially during busy holiday periods. Last thing at night, when the night time shows finish and the parks close, the queues for the Skyliner are long.

Check the last flight before you linger.

Don't assume it runs until midnight. Times change with park hours, and bad weather. Don’t assume that if a show is still on, the skyliner is still running.

Break up your day with resort dining.

Riviera Resort, Boardwalk, and Yacht/Beach Club offer excellent sit-down dining options just a Skyliner ride away from Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. Consider breaking up a Hollywood Studios day with a quick and easy skyliner ride to one of these resorts. A late breakfast at Toppolino’s after rope dropping Hollywood Studios offers a lovely Disney morning during your holiday, and you work up an appetite too!

Great for midday hotel breaks.

Quicker than walking or waiting for buses the skyliner offers an ideal way for skyliner resort guests to head home from EPCOT or Hollywood Studios and escape the midday heat. Non-hotel guests can also consider popping over to a hotel for a quick-service or sit down meal if they need to escape the busy parks and spring / summer heat.

Is the Skyliner Right for You?

For most UK travellers, the Skyliner is one of the most efficient pieces of transport at Walt Disney World. It's fast, quiet, convenient, and very easy for families. If you're planning to spend a lot of time at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, staying at a Skyliner-connected resort is a major advantage.

With that said the skyliner can cause motion sickness, so avoid it if you are susceptible. For some people the skyliner can be a one and done kind of experience. From coming into to the stations at a speed that makes you want to shout “break!” and mid-air pauses, it’s a unique and sometimes thrilling experience. It is an iconic, free Disney experience, so if you’re a first-time UK visitor it is definitely a must try transport option during your holiday.
